I spent last weekend at Mom and Me with Youngest Son. We slept in hammock tents and had a blast. It was WAY easier than setting up a full tent. I may never go back to a regular tent again.

Did you know you can start a fire with steel wool and a 9-volt battery? I heard about that last week, so of course we had to try it out at camp. It was totally cool. We also used a magnesium fire starter and steel file. Yeah, I'm a bit of a pyro. :) But that's what we do in Scouts -- tie things up and set it on fire.

I'm going back to camp this weekend to work staff. It should be loads of fun as well. Hopefully I'll have lots of fun stories to share next week. It will be nice to bridge the boys over and then only have Boy Scout stuff on the schedule.

I got tapped out for OA at summer camp. I'm a little nervous about Ordeal weekend coming up. I get the feeling they work you pretty hard. Saturday was spent doing yard work -- mowing, weeding, burning brush. I never got around to edging, but there will be time for that this week, I think. A little wore this morning, but weeding the flower beds always does that to me.

Today was a nice lazy day. Slept late, watched a little tv, laid in the hammock and read some. Had dinner at Shogun's with the family and my Mom, followed by a White Mocha from Starbucks. Life would be perfect if I didn't have to go to work tomorrow. But since I married for love instead of money, I guess I'll go to work. Next time around I will have to go for money! ;

Fourteen more days of school, then the kids will probably go off to the MIL's for a week or so. They are ready for it, plus they need some new shoes.

I'm ready for the lazier days that come with summer. We still have stuff going on, but at a slightly less frantic pace than we do during the school year. I'm definitly ready to go to Webelos Camp. It's nice to be at Dierks for a few days without the pressures of work and life. No cell phones, no video games. Sitting around the campfire. Can't wait.

Update on life....

DH is doing well. He's tired of being at the house and ready to get back to work. I think he's mostly worried about what they are tearing up while he's not there. lol He's lost a little more weight, but that will make his dr. happy. I think I'm losing a little bit of weight too. We've switched the whole house to a low-cholesterol way of eating. Might as well teach the kids how to eat properly since they now have heart disease from both sides.

Spring is always a busy time for us with Scouts. A big ol' case of the don't want too's. The weather outside is beautiful and I'm stuck in an office with no windows. I wish I was at home digging in my flower beds or laying in my hammock. The house is on it's way to being clean and I'm even caught up on the laundry. Oh, sure there is still work that could be done on the piles in my bedroom or in the computer/dining room. I even put away some of the stuff that's been laying in the garage since June. I think all that's left is the heavy stuff that the hubby needs to find a place for.

Speaking of hubby, he will come home tomorrow. My youngest son, who is very intelligent, decided to wear the same shirt to school today that he wore yesterday. I guess I need to explain that he only bathes every other night because he has a tendency toward really dry skin. So we've explained to him that on nights that he doesn't bathe he needs to at least change his underwear and get a wet cloth and clean the area that the underwear covers. He's only 9, so he's not especially stinky, most of the time.

It wouldn't have been an issue if I had noticed BEFORE we got to school. But I didn't. I mistakenly thought that I was past the days of checking the boy's clothing before we left the house. I know -- silly me. After all, I am the mother of boys, and they are 9 and 13. I should have known better.

So we drop the oldest off at his school and swing around to the next school. As I am reaching over the back seat to give him his lunch money, the shirt registers in my brain. I try to look at his clothing as he gets out of the car every morning, just in case I have to describe what he was wearing to someone. I've always been amazed at the parent's of lost children that can describe exactly what their child was wearing. It occurred to me once upon hearing an Amber Alert, that I had no clue what my children were wearing. From then on I try to take note. There's no way I could look at their closet and tell you what was missing. They each own between 20 & 30 t-shirts. The pants would be easy. Blue jeans for the eldest and shorts for the youngest. Denim for both.

Sorry, I got sidetracked from the real issue of this post. Back to the t-shirt crisis.

As we pull into the parking lot I hand him his lunch money and look at his clothing. It does actually register in my brain that this is the same t-shirt as yesterday morning, only slightly dirtier. I immediately ask as sweetly as possible, "Son -- why are you still wearing yesterday's shirt!????" He has no answer. It never occurred to him that a clean shirt was necessary for school.

I switch to crisis mode and try to figure out how I can get him to class on time in a clean shirt. Luckily the school was still selling Spirit shirts, and we had not bought one yet. So, even though it is not Spirit Day (that's on Friday), he is wearing his Spirit Shirt.

Crisis solved. Mass hysteria averted. I don't look like an incompetent mom in front of the 20 or so teachers at the school and he doesn't stink. And we have learned an important lesson: His lesson - You must wear a clean shirt every day; My lesson - Do the "What was your kid wearing" check before you leave the house. Because, you know, I didn't have enough to think about while we leave for school each morning.

Kids -- what would we do without them?

When did I get old?

You know, you go through life handling the things as they come along. Then one day you look in the mirror and you have wrinkles. Not big Granny wrinkles (although I suspect they are coming) but the little ones around the eyes and on the forehead. And I noticed the other day that I have that frown droop around my mouth that I've noticed in old people. Now is that caused by time or from being overweight? I probably need to lose some weight and see if it goes away, huh?!

So I get the expensive tubes of old people wrinkle eliminator creams from my local make-up nazi -- I mean lady. I've been using them every day for the last 3-4 months (I'm old, remember? I have no idea how long it's been since I bought the stuff.) But I'm almost at the end of the bottle and I still have the wrinkles around my eyes. So is the stuff not working, or have I saved myself from even more wrinkles and lines? These are questions I feel should be answered.

I wasn't that worried about the grey hairs. When the oldest was in kindergarten I had lots of natural "highlights". Now, I'm going every couple of months and getting the highlights covered! I don't know which looks worse, the grey hair or the roots that are showing for a couple of inches along my scalp. I'll ask my Mom. She'll tell me the truth. Actually, now that I think about it, it probably doesn't look that bad or she would've mentioned it already. She loves to tell me "Put some lipstick on -- you look dead!" Nobody loves you like your mom, right?

Speaking of tents, (keep up or you'll get left behind) I need a new tent. The hubby took the old one camping this summer and while he had it the zipper broke. That makes it his fault, right? If I had been using it while when it broke, he'd say it was my fault. It didn't so much break as it became permanently stuck on the material surrounding it. And in his defense, it had been trying to do it for about a year or so. But, it's still his fault. So I'm trying to buy a new tent and this town is a camping equipment vacuum. The ones sold at the local mega-mart are pitiful. They are either only tall enough for a 6 year old to stand up in, or they're big enough for your entire extended family to go camping with you. I would love to go a Cabella's or Gander Mountain and do some shopping, but I just don't have the time right now. Maybe in a few weeks.

Oh well, that's pretty much all for now. Cya later!

Hello Fall!

I left the house this morning to a nice, cool breeze blowing. It's currently 70 degrees outside and I'm loving it! It's a bit chilly when the sun goes down, but that's what flannel jammies are for, right? Too bad we've got a Pack Meeting tonight. It'd be a great evening to sit on the patio!
